Dr. Max Polyakov and EOS Data Analytics are on a mission to save the world. The Agriculture-focused satellite will revolutionize agriculture globally.

EOS Data Analytics Set to Launch Initial Agricultural Satellite Constellation Before 2024

EOS Data Analytics, world-renowned satellite imagery and analysis company, has declared that their plan is by 2024, they establish seven optical satellites. They will launch the satellites into a Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Establishing this satellite imaging constellation will enable the company to institute a comprehensive satellite data-producing vertical. It will be able to collect direct imagery, process, analyze and deliver.

Among the main objectives of this latest satellite will be to monitor farmlands. This will become the first project of this kind that is geared towards agriculture. The new satellites will enable EOS Data Analytics to enhance the availability and precision of its satellite surveillance features.

Data and Analytics Are Key to Boosting Food Production

The satellites will also be critical in addressing other global challenges like land degradation, climate change, and threats to the environment. EOSDA founder Dr. Max Polyakov said that adhering to sustainable agriculture principles was the key to improving agricultural production at a time when there are sudden climate changes.

However, he claimed that it would be a tall order to achieve food security if there is no dependable data and data analysis. In this regard, he claimed that this new project would enable them to offer farmers critical data to help them achieve their food production goals.

The Project

The EOS SAT satellites will comprise 1.4m panchromatic and 2.8m multispectral Ground Sample Distance (resolution). It will also have channels with 11 bands as well as a swath width of up to 40km. They will also use a special group of band channels that will accurately demonstrate the needs in the agricultural sector.

The constellation will go round the earth after every three days. They have designed the satellites to work for five years.

The company will implement the project in three phases. The first phase will be in 2022, the second phase in 2023, and the third phase will be in 2024. The projection is to launch the initial satellites in 2022 and then successive hardware updates in the subsequent years.

Unique Features

The EOSDA agricultural site has unique features that make it useful in its mandate. It comprises features like surveillance of crop health, growth comparison, crop classification, weather prediction, and soil moisture content estimation.

Other notable features include:

  • Data that is almost real-time – the satellite flies over five to seven times every week.

  • Image resolutions – it will offer up to eight times better than the standard agricultural monitoring satellites provide.

  • Proprietary data – this is for the company’s agricultural models that will help increase the processing speed.

  • Exclusive rights to images captured in certain areas.
